Location / Bandung - Indonesia Year / 2016 Program / Commercial & Office Size / +1,300 SQM Status / Proposal
Showroom & Office, according to this project, means ability to accommodate the whole furniture business process. Firstly, the spaces inside have to be sizeable for assembling, managing, selling, and exhibiting the products. And secondly, to be evenly attractive, the architecture is required to be distinctive without being alienated from the surrounding. By capturing the physical characteristics from mapping the commercial building typology along Jalan Gatot Subroto, also using survey and street-view photography, Shop house came up as the dominant building typology, with more than 75% coverage in the street. In sequence, the shop house consists of parking, small terrace, an open plan chamber, vertical circulation and utilities – and repeated upstairs. The design proposal is to keep the open plan chamber and make it to the center. Creating sizable spaces for assembling and exhibition. Then inspired by a ribbon dancer, a continuous stair circles the chamber. It starts from the ground floor, where an expandable longue and bar is located. The stair climbs up to the next three levels of gallery, where the products are exhibited in narrative and sometimes includes workshop activity. It finished on the fourth level of the office, where administrative activities are run. The stair is covered with translucent material to create visual connection with the surrounding. Additionally, this put the showroom & office as the vocal point along the street.
